Reinforcing input and support –Smooth transition from primary to secondary education

The school system in Hong Kong is divided into several core components and phases—pre primary, lower primary (from P1-P3), upper primary (from P4-P6), junior secondary (from S1-S3), senior secondary (from S4-S6) as well as tertiary education. Transitions among different learning phases are crucial to the effectiveness of learning. Hence, we have enhanced the counseling and support for secondary 1 students, who have just promoted from upper primary, aiming to equip them with skills and attitudes of adapting to the secondary education, as well as the ‘Hip Wo’ school life. The entire bridging counseling program is divided into 3 phases, namely the early summer vacation, the late summer vacation and 1st term of secondary 1. Each phase consists of different objectives and tasks:

Note: ‘Through-train schools’ are the realization of perfect transitions. It can be divided into 9-year basis (linking lower primary, upper primary and junior secondary education) and 12-year basis (linking lower primary, upper primary, junior secondary and senior secondary education). The essence is simply the direct linkage in terms of learning and teaching, management and organization, as well as students support. The objective is raising students’ learning performance through smooth transition.
