‘Realizing IT potential, Unleashing Learning Power’—the Fourth 5-year Strategy on Information Technology in Education

In May this year, the Government has released the consultation documents on the 4th 5-year strategy on Information Technology in Education –‘Realizing IT potential, Unleashing Learning Power’, which aims at increasing the usage of IT in education and incorporating e-learning into various curricula. Not only do these enable students to master self learning, but they can also learn and apply computational thinking. The release is of appropriate timing, which lets us reflect upon new approaches and plans in education—how can we make good use of this opportunity to develop IT education? How can we launch learning activities which are real time, cross-regional and cross-curricular? How can we make better use of electronic teaching materials? How to develop remote learning and conduct effective teaching and learning activities?   (extracted from an article entitled ‘a discussion on the IT education in Hong Kong’, Joint School Information Technology Association, in the issue 635 of newsletter of the Professional Teachers’ Union)

[Note 1] IT education must be built on appropriate infrastructure. Following the rapid technological advancement, wifi network, cloud computing and self mobile devices have become indispensable items in infrastructure. Recognizing this, our school has launched the ‘Delia Information and Communication Technology Learning Scheme’ last year, which wifi network has been constructed and each student has been offered a tablet computer, in order to facilitate teaching and learning through effective use of tablet computers.
